At the Night Market in Vientiane, Laos

So we are heading out of Laos tomorrow and I am sad to say that I haven’t found any vintage clothing in this country.  In fact, other than a t-shirt I haven’t bought any clothing here at all.

Of course I am always looking – I do love to shop – but every time I find a dress or blouse I really like there are issues like it doesn’t come in a size big enough to fit me, it’s not made out of practical material (which usually means it’s really heavy or completely sheer), it’s too short, etc.

Just so you get an idea of what is available in Laos, here’s a small sampling of what you can find at the night market in Vientiane:

I really liked these blouses (or minidresses???) but they were made out of heavy material.

These pants just won’t go away, they’re everywhere!!!!!!!!   Post about these pants in Thailand

Of course there are also plenty of other things you can buy at the night market but I didn’t take too many photos of those things:

Our next stop is South Korea and I’m quite excited about it.  However it will be sad to leave such a beautiful country.

South Korea isn’t on the backpacker trail, which is good in some ways but I sure will miss the easy availability of western food – who knows when I’ll be able to find cheese sandwiches and Mexican food again!

Until next time!

  1. Ah my friend bought a jacket in that market when we were there as she was heading to North Vietnam back in December (I followed her example when I got to Vietnam a couple weeks later, it was freezing!). Good memories. It was a friday night and there were hundreds of people doing aerobics to cheesy dance music by the river, it was amazing!

  2. Wendy, it looks like your trip to the night market in Vientiane focused on vintage clothing. We didn’t make it to Vientiane, but my focus at the night market in Luang Prabang was food :). These night markets are a blast. ~James
